First, I’ll stress that getting to Bora Bora is never easy but always worthwhile. Bora Bora is more difficult and expensive to reach than other island locations because it’s one of the remote islands we discussed.  

Flying 

You cannot fly to Bora Bora directly from the US. This is the same case as the vast majority of French Polynesian islands. The reason is that the land masses are too small to support the size of runways required to land commercial airliners. 

• Instead, visitors to the Society Islands fly into the main island via Tahiti’s Faa’a International Airport (PPT), located just outside of Papeete. 
• Charter flights, helicopters, and regular flights will take you to Bora Bora from there. 
• The flight time is only about 50 minutes, and there can be as many as eight or nine aircraft per day headed to Bora Bora during peak seasons.

Airlines that fly direct to Tahiti (PPT) include:

• From Los Angeles: Air Tahiti Nui offers daily direct flights six days a week. Air France offers direct flights to Tahiti as often as four times every week.
